PLANNED AROUND THE SEASONS

Most of the trouble comes during watering season, when every sprinkling cycle leaves minerals behind on the stone. Visits are planned around that window.

WATERING SEASON

Roughly April through late October

Every watering cycle can leave mineral deposits behind, so this is when the monument needs the most attention. Ideally, three of the four yearly visits fall inside this window — sometimes all four, depending on what your family prefers.

WINTER

Late October through April

Once the watering stops, the headstone stays free of hard-water stains. The only worry in winter is the occasional litter that finds its way onto the resting place — dirt, dust, goose droppings, sticks, and leaves — so it usually makes sense to fit in one cleaning during a dry spell.

The first treatment is the most difficult and time-consuming, and it sets the course for everything after. Once that thorough first cleaning is complete, the hard water is kept off — and the visits that follow are easier and quicker to finish.
